Dr. Ashwin completed his M.B.B.S. from Father Muller Medical College in Kankanady, Mangalore, from September 2002 to April 2008. He then pursued an M.S. in General Surgery at the same institution, further enhancing his knowledge and skills from April 2009 to May 2012. Subsequently, he undertook DNB in Surgical Gastroenterology at VPS Lakeshore Hospital and Research Centre in Kochi.

To broaden his understanding of healthcare management, Dr. Ashwin pursued an MBA in Hospital and Healthcare Management from Mewar University in Rajasthan between 2019 and 2021. Additionally, he obtained certification as a Robotic Surgeon, specializing in the Da Vinci X system 4th Generation Robot, from the Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences in September 2021. His commitment to professional development led him to become a Certified LASER Proctologist from Oreol Academy, allowing him to perform advanced Laser Surgeries for conditions such as Piles, Fistula in Ano, Anal Fissure, and Pilonidal Sinus.

Dr. Ashwin Alva’s career journey includes valuable teaching and clinical experience. He served as a senior resident in the Department of General Surgery at Father Muller Medical College from June 2012 to December 2014, accumulating four and a half years of teaching experience. Currently, he works as a Consultant Surgical Gastroenterologist at A.J Hospital, with a special focus on minimally invasive surgery (laparoscopic and robotic) for gastrointestinal cancers and benign conditions. Additionally, he specializes in bariatric surgery (weight loss surgery) and liver transplantation. Dr. Ashwin is also a visiting consultant at multiple hospitals in the periphery, including Somayaji Hospital, BC Road, Adarsha, Pragati, Chetana, and Hitha Hospitals in Puttur, as well as New Medical Centre in Kundapur. He performs various procedures, including laparoscopy, upper and lower GI endoscopy, to provide comprehensive care to his patients.

During his tenure at VPS Lakeshore Hospital in Kochi, Dr. Ashwin worked for three years in the Department of Surgical Gastroenterology and Liver Transplantation under the guidance of renowned HPB surgeon Dr. H. Ramesh. This experience provided him with extensive training in various aspects of GI surgery, including core basic GI surgery, advanced surgeries such as hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery, colorectal surgery, and upper GI surgery. He also gained exposure to minimally invasive colorectal, pancreatic, and thoracoscopic esophageal surgeries, as well as cadaveric liver transplantation.

Dr. Alva.K’s dedication to staying updated with the latest advancements in his field is evident through his participation in various conferences and presentations. He attended conferences such as the CME on advanced rectal cancer, peritoneal metastasis, intestinal failure, and enterocutaneous fistula at CMC, Vellore in November 2014, the Video Workshop on Gastroesophageal Disorders at Madras Medical College, Chennai in April 2015, and the Lakeshore International Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Technology Update at Kochi in April 2015. He also attended the annual conference of the Indian Association of Surgical Gastroenterology (IASG) in Pune in October 2015 and the 26th annual conference of IASG in Coimbatore in October 2016. Furthermore, Dr. Ashwin has presented posters at IASG conferences and has authored publications in respected medical journals.
